A Pinterest Party?

It's no secret that I love to craft.

I love sewing. I love mod podge. I love baking (it's a craft to yo). I love it all. From DIY to just plain paper crafts.

Since I have started my business, I find it hard to make time to just craft for me. And of course as a mom, by me I mean my house, my hubby, my kids and myself. When there are orders and shows and a shop to stock up for, it is tough to find time to do it for yourself. Especially when there are dishes piling up and you can't justify one more minute in the studio.

On occasion, I will need to make a prototype for a new product. At which time the kids are ecstatic. This weekend was a new little girls handbag that should be making it's debut at a MOPs boutique next month.

In the meantime, I have this list or pinboard, a mile long with projects I want to whip up. Oh, what a problem to have haha. But seriously these projects taunt me. I want to do it now!

Then...I read this post "Have a Pinterest Party" . Say what Kara-Noel?!? You my friend, are a genius. You and your friends that threw the original party. Geniuses.

I want to throw a Pinterest Party. Badly! It is the answer to my problem. My craft addiction problem that is.

Who's in? If I had a pinterest party who would want in? This is no joke y'all. A party is coming soon.

Crafting it Up

With Easter right around the corner, the kids and I have been working hard to cutesy up the house. One of the projects we have done, is a cute Easter egg banner.

She is intense.
We started up by ripping up lots and lots and lots of colored paper.

Once the paper was all torn up, we pasted it to sheets colored paper. Try and cover the whole page, if you can't it's ok since you are using a pretty color background.

Once our paper was all covered and dried, I drew a few eggs on the back and then cut out our egg shapes.

I had Rhiannon help me put them in an order that was most appealing to her little eyes. We punched holes in the tops and then threaded yarn through the holes. Which is also a great project for fine motor skills.

Sorry, no pictures of those steps. I promise you will figure it out though :)

We hung our banner on our fire place for all to enjoy. This was a fun project and a great way for us all to do something crafty together.

Check back tomorrow for a fun recipe to prepare the kids for Easter.

P.S. I am linking up at Made with Love Monday

Yarn Challenged

The process of getting the girl room together has begun. The construction starts this week, so I thought it was a good time to start some of the decoration projects. The fabrics for Rhi's quilt have been purchased, washed and ironed (I felt the need to list all of that since it's ALL that I've done on it), pillows have been made and then a few odds and ends have been started.

One of the items that Rhi requested was a letter R. I have a cute little wall art planned and it fit right into the idea. I decided to go with a yarn wrapped letter. I have seen them everywhere and they seem easy enough...hahahaha. That is me laughing at myself. Apparently, yarn is not my medium. It went poorly. So poorly I thought I'd do a tutorial. A tutorial of how NOT to do this.

So, I started off with my letter and yarn.

A spot of glue to hold the beginning yarn in place. But then I couldn't fully cover the bottom. Hmmm...so I added a little more glue and then some more. Ah. It is ready. So I moved up the letter. It was going well. Until. Wait. How do I get all this yarn through here? I know I am smarted than this. No, really, I have to be smarter than this....At this point I was regretting not naming Rhiannon Olivia or Odette. Those are great names. But really, how do I fix this?

So I cut it. And kept cutting little yarn balls of the red yarn so that I could get around all of the turns and outsmart the stinkin' thing. It worked like a charm. Do this. At the beginning not when you get stuck and angry.
At this point, things were going great. I got it all wrapped. All the way up to the next turn...until I turned it around. Wait....hold the phone. How did I manage to cover all of the front and miss this big old gap here in the back? This is lame. RECOVER..

So I worked my way around and got the the point of going around the last turn when I thought, why don't I wrap from the bottom of the R and through the center in order to avoid any glue on the bottom? Hindsight is 50/50 folks. Do that. Not that gluey mess that I started with.

Really, it didn't turn out horrible. It is not one of those beautiful letters that I see all over Pinterest but it is usable. I'm thinking of adding some rosettes staggering up the left side. Hide some flaws and add some pretty. We will see.
So, basically, don't do what I did. Here are my tips for you.
  1. Name your children names that start with an O or maybe an L. That would be ideal.
  2. Paint the letter first, so anything showing through is not so In-Your-Face obvious.
  3. Start off by cutting a bunch of yarn balls to easily wrap around all of crazy lame turns.
  4. If you do have a letter like an R start wrapping vertical and then hide that by wrapping horizontally to hide it. Does that make sense?
  5. And if you are yarn challenged, like I am, go to www.etsy.com and order a stinkin' letter. There are some really pretty ones on there.

New Friends and a Giveaway

Have I mentioned to you all that I am an introvert? Because, oh boy, I am an Introvert. I like break out in hives thinking about meeting or talking to new people. I hate that about myself but it's one of those things you just have to deal with and move on.

Have you noticed that the blog and handmade world is more of a community than anything. That people come together and make great friendships before even meeting? This works out great for me. I get to stay in my comfort zone. By the way comfort zones suck. They keep us in little shells and don't allow us to grow.

Luckily for me there are bloggers like Kimmie at Sugar and Dots who decide to invite friends from twitter into her home. Ripped me right out of my comfort zone and forced me to meet new people in real life. Now when Kimmie invited me to her craft night, I knew that I would have fun but that I would just be a little uncomfortable. I was only half right. I was not uncomfortable at all. I felt like I had known all of the girls for years as we chatted over cupcakes.

We did eventually get around to crafting. It took us a while to migrate because we were having way to much fun. But Kimmie taught us to make some adorable frayed blooms.

When a few of the girls realized what time it was we said our goodbyes and Kimmie sent us home with these goodies.

Which brings me to this...Have you heard of LemiShine? No, neither had I. But let me just tell you, the stuff is amazing and I am hooked. Our generous hostess even gave us a little extra to giveaway so I'm offering you the chance to win a little bundle of LemiShine. You will be entering to win a reusable LemiShine bag and a couple of LemiShine samples. To top it off, I am going to include a coupon for 25% off in my shop.

To enter go over and "like" LemiShine on Facebook, follow them on twitter and/or follow any of my new friends from my crafty night. Come back here and comment for each thing you do.

Here's a list of the girls and links to their blogs.

Baby Shower Fun

This past Saturday my friend Tess and I threw a baby shower for our friend Stefani. It turned out so super cute. Towards the end of last week I told Tess "I am beginning to hate owls!" but the shower ended up to be soooo worth the annoyance of the poor little birds. Took some photos to share with you all. We wanted simple but cute and I think we pulled it off. If nothing else, Stefani was happy and that is what is most important, right?

First up, the food. Simple, Simple, Simple! Store bought. I know what your thinking, don't you love to cook and bake? Yes, I do...but there was a lot of stuff to do. So we went to Costco and bought some sandwiches, wraps, salad, chips and cookies. Put it out and wa-la!

Is this not the cutest drink table you have ever seen? Tess makes a mean Cherry limeaid, so she whipped that up and we cutsied up the table with some margarita glasses filled with extra cherries and limes. Added some pitchers of water and iced tea and it was perfection.

I love how the banner turned out. Don't you? Super cute and again simple.

What table is complete without a centerpiece? Tess and I painted some basic pots in the colors of the shower (which are the nursery colors). Then she added babies name to one and I made up some owl pillows for the baby and her big sisters room. The idea behind these were owls in nests, not sure they look quite like that but they looked adorable on the tables.

Last but not least, the party favors. We made up some of Julie's (JoysHope) mason jar cupcakes. Put our own little twist on them, chocolate cupcakes w/ chocolate frosting, caramel sauce and toffee bits. Attached a napkin and fork so they could take it all home with them. Unfortunately they were all gone, so we can't tell you how good they really were :)

My first quilt

Remember when I told you all about the nursery, here? And then there was a change of plans here, I decided that I would be making Talon's quilt myself. Well friends, the quilt is finished. Can I just tell you how much I love making quilts? Or how much I love this quilt? Oh man, I want to show it to everyone. I don't think I have ever been so proud. Don't worry, I humble myself when I look to the detail. Ha! I mean come on it is my FIRST quilt. Sooo, you want to see it? Sure you do, take a look!

Isn't it wonderful? Oh yeah, Talon loves it too. So does Rhi. They had a blast playing on their blankies together (you will see hers sometime next week when I do the room reveal). Okay so, you can see it here too just not well.
